The Journal of Language and Literature (JLL Journal) is committed to transparency, integrity, and adherence to international best practices in scholarly publishing. These policies safeguard a fair, ethical, and high-quality publication process in accordance with the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines and global standards.

Readers, authors, and reviewers are encouraged to consult the following subsections for detailed guidance:

    1. Authorship

All listed authors must meet recognized criteria for authorship, including substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. Each author must approve the final version of the manuscript before submission.

    2. Authors’ Warranties

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal. Authors are also responsible for ensuring that all required permissions for copyrighted material are obtained.

    3. Peer Review

The journal follows a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure impartiality, quality, and academic merit. Manuscripts are reviewed by at least two independent experts in the relevant field.

    4. Author Appeals

Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a detailed justification. Appeals are evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief and, if needed, reviewed by independent referees to ensure fairness.

    5. Supplemental Information

Authors may submit supplementary materials (e.g., datasets, appendices, multimedia files) that enhance the value of their research. Where appropriate, these materials will be published alongside the article.

    6. Data Sharing

Authors are encouraged to follow open science practices by making their datasets and research materials available for verification, transparency, and reproducibility.

    7. Permissions

It is the responsibility of authors to obtain permission for the reuse of third-party material (tables, figures, datasets). Proper acknowledgment of sources is mandatory.

    8. Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest that could influence the integrity of the research or its evaluation.

    9. Plagiarism and Copyright Infringement

The journal applies strict anti-plagiarism measures. All submissions are checked using plagiarism-detection tools. Cases of duplication, fabrication, or copyright infringement will result in rejection or, if published, retraction.

    10. Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of the publisher or external influence. Editors evaluate manuscripts solely based on academic merit, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

    11. Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for ensuring fairness, confidentiality, and adherence to ethical standards throughout the editorial process. They work to prevent bias and manage conflicts of interest effectively.

    12. Publisher Responsibilities

The publisher supports editorial independence, ensures compliance with international publishing ethics, and provides resources to maintain the integrity of the publication process.

    13. Open Access

The journal follows an open-access policy, making all content freely available online without subscription barriers. This ensures wide dissemination of research to the global academic community.

    14. Fees and Charges

Any applicable article processing charges (APCs) or publication fees are communicated transparently. Authors are informed of these costs prior to submission.

    15. CrossMark Policy

The journal participates in the CrossMark initiative, providing transparency regarding the status of published content, including corrections, updates, or retractions.

    16. Corrections

Errors identified after publication are corrected promptly and transparently through corrigenda, errata, or retractions, depending on the nature of the error.

    17. Misconduct

Cases of research or publication misconduct (plagiarism, falsification, fabrication, or unethical research practices) are investigated in accordance with COPE guidelines and may lead to rejection, retraction, or notification to relevant institutions.

    18. Complaints

Complaints related to editorial decisions, ethical concerns, or journal policies are handled transparently by the editorial board, following international best practices.

    19. Privacy Policy

The journal protects the confidentiality of personal data associated with manuscript submission, peer review, and publication, in compliance with data protection regulations.

Ethical Guidelines for the Use of Human Participants in Research

The Journal of Language and Literature (JLL Journal) upholds rigorous ethical standards for all research involving human participants—including individuals, their personal data, and their contributions in interviews, surveys, or other forms of participation. As a journal committed to integrity and academic excellence, JLL requires that such research be conducted with respect, transparency, and full protection of participants’ welfare and dignity.

    Ethical Principles

Research submitted to JLL must be guided by clear scientific and scholarly objectives, such as:

    • Advancing understanding of language, culture, literature, or communication practices.

    • Contributing to knowledge on social, cognitive, or developmental aspects of language and literature.

    • Generating outcomes that benefit individuals, communities, or society at large.

Authors must fully disclose all aspects of the research that may affect participants’ willingness to engage, and they must respond transparently to additional queries. Where full disclosure is not possible prior to obtaining consent (e.g., for studies involving linguistic behavior where concealment is methodologically required), enhanced safeguards must be implemented to ensure participants’ dignity and well-being.

    Informed Consent and Participant Protection

    • Informed consent is mandatory for all studies involving human participants. Consent should be explicit, voluntary, and documented.

    • Researchers must avoid physical, psychological, or social harm to participants.

    • Authors must clearly state in their manuscript how informed consent was obtained, what risks (if any) were identified, and what measures were taken to mitigate them.

    • Manuscripts that fail to demonstrate compliance with these principles may be delayed or rejected.

Scope of Research Involving Human Participants

    These ethical requirements apply to:

    • Basic research in linguistics, literary analysis involving human subjects, or experimental studies in communication.

    • Field-based or ethnographic research, including interviews, oral histories, or participant observations.

    • Surveys, questionnaires, and case studies involving personal data.

    Institutional and International Standards

All authors are expected to comply with recognized institutional, national, and international ethical frameworks, including but not limited to:

    Summary of Requirements

    • Ensure full disclosure, informed consent, and participant protection.

    • Maintain clear scholarly objectives with meaningful contributions to knowledge.

    • Follow COPE and Elsevier guidelines for editorial and peer-review conduct.

    • Reference and comply with established institutional and international ethical frameworks for research involving human participants.
